Cornicione e balconi - Ledge and balconies

§ Novità alla Casa Rossa che comincia sempre più ad assomigliare ad una casa anzichè ad uno scatolone .
§ News at the Casa Rossa which begins to look like a house and not a huge cereal box.

§ Oggi abbiamo aggiunto i balconi che sono raddoppiati. In origine doveva essere uno solo al secondo piano ma l'insieme sembrava un po' misero ed allora abbiamo aggiunto quello al piano superiore sostituendo così la finestra del bagno dei ragazzi.
§ Today we added the balconies which doubled their number. Originaly it had to be only one at the second floor but it seemed a bit empty therefore we added the one at the top floor replacing the window of the kids bathroom.

§ Abbiamo ricostruito l'aspetto dei balconi Genovesi con i loro ampi sostegni.
§ We recreated the aspect of the Genoese balconies with their broad braces.

§ Questo è il cornicione che ci ha fatto sudare le proverbiali sette camicie per fissarlo. Deve ancora essere stuccato ma promette bene.
§ This is the ledge which made us sweat blood over it to fix it in place. It still has to be plastered but it promises well.

§ Ecco come si presenta il tetto , ha un andamento zigzagante ma c'è un motivo ;o)

La porzione più alta del muro sarà la parete del casotto che proteggerà l'arrivo delle scale e fungerà da ripostiglio per gli attrezzi.

§ And this is the roof , it has a zig zag profile but there is a reason ;o)

The tallest portion of the wall will be the back of the hut which will protect the landing of the stairs and it will serve as warehouse.

§ Ed ecco infine il retro ..... sembra una prigione ma vi garantisco che è identico all'originale.
Le finestre servono a dare luce alle scale e sono in scala con quelle vere.
§ Lastly the back .... it looks like a prison but I grant you that it's identical to the original.
The windows give light to the stairs and are in scale with the real ones.

§ Manca ancora la falda del tetto che collegherà il cornicione al muro ma, piano piano , ci arriveremo.
Per ora sono a caccia di cartoni da uova per fare le tegole di ardesia .... pare sia impossibile trovarle ma ce la farò !
§ The roof pitch which will link the ledge to the roof is still missing but , slowly slowly , we'll get there.
Up to now I am hunting eggs cartons to make the slate tiles ..... seems impossible to find them but I shall succed !

§ Solo una piccola notizia: sarà il caminetto moderno , la mia prima scelta , e la famiglia si adeguerà ;o)
A Miniaturitalia ho anche trovato le luci LED perfette per fare la lampada sulla parete !
Devo solo decidere il colore .... terribile, non riesco a focalizzarlo !

§ Just a little piece of news: it will be the modern fireplace, my first choice, and the family will make the best out of it ;o)
At Miniaturitalia I found the perfet strip of LED lights to make the lamp on the wall !

§ Continuo a cercare nuovi spunti per arredare la Casa.

Questo sarà il camino del salone al II° piano. Già me lo vedo .....

Sono ancora molto indecisa sul colore della parete , lo vorrei scuro ma non incombente e sicuramente non questo ocra-marronetto.

§ I keep looking for hints to furnish the Casa.

This will be the fireplace in the living room at the II° floor . I already can see it ....

I am still highly indecised on the colour of the wall , I'd like it dark but not incumbent and definitely not this brownish ochre.

§ La certezza è che sulla parete sopra la fiamma ci sarà un grande quadro , la minicopia di quello che è a casa mia e che adoro : L' Incontro di Maria ed Elisabetta.

§ The only certainty is that on the wall over the flame there will be a big painting , the mini copy of the one hung inmy real house and which I love : The Meeting of Mary and Elisabeth.

§ La gran fortuna è stata quella di trovare il sito di Edilkamin che contiene anche le misure precise per poterlo realizzare più facilmente.

§ The great luck was finding Edilkamin website cointaining the precise misures of it so it will be easier to reproduce.

§ Non ho fatto molto questa settimana , l'arrivo di Matteo ha capovolto le priorità con mia grande felicità.

Oggi pomeriggio però, approfittando del primo pomeriggio freddo e piovoso da mesi a questa parte, abbiamo montato le prime porte. Poteva essere un lavoro "semplice" ma in realtà ci ha impegnato per quasi 3 ore ( pausa caffè inclusa) per via delle pareti laterali deformate ( %*#§$" )

Questa sarà la facciata anteriore , manca il balcone del secondo piano che aggiungeremo nei prossimi giorni . Spero.

§ I haven't done much this week , Matteo's arrival has changed priorities much to my happiness.
But this afternoon , thanks to the first cold and rainy day in the last months , we put up the first doors.
It might be a "simple" job but actually it kept us busy for nearly 3 hours ( coffee break included ) due to the warped walls ( %*#§$" )

This will be the front facade , still lacking of the balcony at the second floor which we'll add in the next few days. Hopefully.

Bene, se non lo sapete sappiate che vi manca una nozione molto importante al fine della felice realizzazione della vostra casa dei sogni ;o)

§ Sergeants in Italian is another name for clamps.

Well, if you didn't know that , you lack of a most important notion in order to achieve a happy fulfilment of your dream house ;o)

§ Ed i sergenti ci sono stati MOLTO utili !!
MDF sarà un materiale economico , facile da lavorare ma , Santa Cleopatra , si deforma a guardarlo !!

§ And clamps have been MOST useful !!
MDF might be a cheap material , easy to work but , good heaven , it warps while you look at it !!

§ Stasera dopo cena , e dopo una giornata intera di lavoro (sigh) , sono andata in garage con il mio Papà per montare l'ultimo piano della Casa.
Questo tempo passato con lui si sta dimostrando la parte più preziosa di questo progetto. Per fortuna abbiamo davanti ancora tante, tantissime ore di lavoro insieme.

§ Tonight after dinner , and after a full day at work (sigh) , I went to the garage with my Dad to fix the last floor of the Casa.
This time spent with him is the most precious part of this project. Luckily we still have many, many hours of work to do together.

§ Ed ecco la Casa ..... per ora non è Rossa ma datemi qualche mese e vedrete :o))

§ And here is the Casa .... it isn't Rossa aka Red yet but give me a few months and you'll see :o))

§ Abbiamo avuto poco tempo oggi, solo un paio d'ore , ma siamo riusciti a montare i muri per il piano terra ed il primo piano.

Il piano terra ospiterà la Sala da Tè , un negozio d'occhiali ed un garage ( gentile richiesta di W).

Al primo piano ci saranno la cucina, la dispensa , una stanza per la famiglia, una lavanderia ed un piccolo bagno.

§ We had only a couple of hours today but we managed to build up the walls of the ground and first floor.

The ground floor will host a Tea Room, a spectacles shop and a garage ( W's kind request).

At the first floor there will be the kitchen, a pantry, a family room, a laundry room and a small WC.

§ Come potete vedere siamo un tantino maniacali (ehm ehm) ed i nostri muri sono perfettamente in squadra !

§ As you can see we are a tad maniacs (ehm ehm) and our walls are perfectly square.

§ Questa sarà la cucina e la porta doppia porterà alla dispensa :o)))

§ This will be the kitchen and the double door will lead to the pantry :o)))

§ Questa è la stanza per la famiglia mentre la piccola porta , ma probabilmente sarà sostituita da una tenda fatta con un mezero , porta alla lavanderia ed al bagnetto.

§ This is the family room while the small door , which probably will be changed with a curtain made with a mezero , leads to the laundry and the smallish washroom.

§ This will be the main entrance , try to imagine a flight of stairs leaning to a wall.
Can you see that opening at the end of the wall ? it will be the door of a closet under the stairs accessible from the Tea Room :o))

§ L'Epifania è una festa simpatica, mi è simpatica la Befana e soprattutto avere un giorno libero infrasettimanale è un vero lusso.

Una vera festa che ho sfruttato nel migliore dei modi, ossia tagliando le pareti interne e le aperture per le porte della Casa Rossa :o)))

§ Epiphany is a holiday which I truly like , more over a day off in mid week is a real treat.

A true holiday which I used in the best of ways , that is cutting the inner walls and doors openings of the Casa Rossa :o)))

§ Questo è il terzo piano della Casa , il più complesso con le sue tre camere da letto, due bagni, una cabina armadio ed un pianerottolo.
Se fai le cose in piccolo tanto vale sognare in grande ;o)

§ This is the third floor of the Casa , the most complex with its three bedrooms, two bathrooms , one closet and a landing.
If you make mini things it is worth dreaming big ;o)

§ Questo è il pianerottolo , il grande "buco" quadrato corrisponderà alle scale. La porta di fronte è la porta del bagno dei ragazzi.

§ This is the landing , the big square "hole" will be taken by the stairs. The door in front is the kids' bathroom door.

§ Il bagno , piccolo ma conterrà una grande doccia e avrà una porta scorrevole.
§ The bathroom, it's small but it will contain a big shower and it will have a sliding door.

§ La porta a sinistra è quella della camera di una ipotetica bambina mentre il foro frontale conterrà la porta della camera di M.

§ The door on the left belongs to a hyphotetical little girl while the front opening will held M's room door.

§ E questo è l'uomo senza il quale nulla di tutto questo potrebbe esistere , il capomastro e grande ispiratore, il mio Papà.

Trovate un posticino accogliente , che so, il garage del vostro Papà.

Convincete il suddetto Papà che lavorare insieme sarà come tornare indietro nel tempo - non c'è voluto molto ;o)

Cominciate a disegnare, tagliare, carteggiare , riempirvi di polvere di legno , chiacchierare, fare una o due pause caffè.

Ecco gli ingredienti perfetti per una fine d'anno strepitosa e per la Casa dei vostri sogni.

§ Get some MDF boards, many of them.

Find a cosy place, who knows, your Daddy's garage.

Convince the aforesaid Dad that working together would be like going back in time - that wasn't a big effort ;o)

Start drawing , cutting, sanding, covering yourselves up with wood dust , chatting, taking a cup of coffee or two.

Here you have the perfect ingredients for a tremendous end of Year and for your dream Casa.

Sono i tipici pavimenti Genovesi di graniglia in auge dal 1600 in poi.

These are the tipical Genoan graniglia floors fashionable from 1600 on.

Questi appartengono alla sua casa che è coeva alla Casa Rossa , ossia i primissimi anni del 1900.

These belong to her house which is coeval to the Casa Rossa, the very first years of 1900.

Erano realizzati con piccoli pezzi di marmi colorati legati da malte multicolori e poi levigati fino alla lucentezza degli specchi

They were made with small tassels of coloured marbles linked with multicoloured mortars and the polished till they shined like mirrors

I disegni potevano essere di ogni genere , astratti , naturalistici , geometrici , architettonici ma sempre molto colorati

The patterns could be of any kind , abstract , naturalistic , geometrical, architectural but always of bold colours.

Anche mitologici :o)) Mythological too :o))

Vorrei riuscire a riprodurre qualcosa di simile nella mia Casa , che , a proposito , è in lentissima costruzione.

I'd like to reproduce something of this sort in my Casa Rossa, which, BTW, is slooooowly in progress.

L'obbiettivo non è dei più semplici ma ho tutto il tempo che mi serve .... una vita !

§ Ora ho un po' più di tempo, i lavori per KDF sono finiti :o)))))), e posso dedicarmi un pochino ai miei blog.
Come avete "forse" letto nel mio post del 23 Novembre su La Stanza di Giuggiola ho avuto il piacere di incontrare Peiwen e di pranzare con lei.

§ Now have a bit more time, works for KDF are finished :o))))))), and I can dedicate sometime to my blogs.

La Casa Rossa non fa eccezione e, per quanto sia ancora in costruzione, sto già raccogliendo tutto ciò che potrà servire.

§ There is never too much in a house, you know that we must be ready for any inconvenience.
The Casa Rossa makes no excepion and, although it is still under construcion, I am already gathering everything I might need.

§ A me piacciono le giostre !

Le giostre all'antica, con i cavalli, la macchinina dei pompieri e la gondola.

Se c'è anche un delfino azzurro allora sono felice.

Invece detesto quelle ENORMI macchine dove voli velocissimo, scendi in picchiata e fai il triplice giro della morte , mi spaventano solo a guardarle.

§ I love carousels !

Old style carousels with the horses, the firemen truck and the gondola.

If there is a blue dolphin too I am even happier.

Instead I hate those HUGE machineries where you fly as swift as lightning , you nose-dive and you make a triple loop , they scare me to deah.

§ Queste mini giostre hanno fatto un lungo volo con me: le comprai a Singapore l'anno scorso con l'idea di farci qualcosa ... non meglio precisato.

§ These mini carousels have done a long flight with me : I bought them in Singapore last year with the uncertain idea of making something out of them.

§ Questi giorni di malattia , durante i quali sono andata a lavorare ma poi ero troppo stanca per fare qualsiasi altra cosa , sono stati propizi alla metamorfosi delle giostrine.

§ These illness days , during which I went to work but I was too tired to do anything else , have been propitious to the metamorphosis of the little ones.

§ Plaster and paint become eveything is said in my country and here are the changed cuties.

§ Sono a casa malata....

Ieri stavo così male che ho trascorso tutto il pomeriggio a letto, al buio e senza riuscire a sollevare la testa.

Oggi , all'alba delle 11.00 , sono riuscita ad alzarmi e ho finalmente fatto due fotine ai regali che Patrizia mi ha mandato.

Regali del tutto inaspettati e perciò ancora più graditi.

Yesterday I felt so poorly that I spent all afternoon in bed, in a darkened room and without lifting my head.

Today, at 11.00 am dawn , I managed to get up and I finally snapped a couple of piccies to Patrizia's gifts.

Totally unwaited for gifts and for this reason even more welcomed.

§ The teapot is lovely but the jelly drives me crazy !!! it's flabby and sticky !!! just like the real thig !!! I love it to bits !! I put it under a glass dome because I'm afraid that it might get ruined or it might attract dust ( which is queen in my house)

§ Il porta torte/cupcakes in foggia di prato doveva essere mio !Ha un chè di fiabesco che mi lasciava sempre a bocca aperta ed , insieme ai copri cupcakes a forma di fiore, crea un'aura da giardino incantato.

§ The grassy tiered cake/ cupcakes stand had to be mine ! its fairy tales look always left me open mouthed and, along with the flowery cupcakes liners , creates an enchanted garden mood.

§ Carol ha preparato anche un kit per questa delizia , un fiore dentro un cartone di latte .... non è la cosa più carina che abbiate mai visto ?

§ E non poteva mancare una torta ! una torta alle ciliegie talmente perfetta che quando 'ho presa in mano e mi sono accorta che NON era soffice ci sono rimasta male ! e guardate le ciliegie, sono incredibili.

§ A cake was a must have ! a cherry cake so perfect that when I touched it and I realised that it was NOT soft I was nearly deluded ! and look at the loose cherries, to die for.

Io adoro i colori e le palettes , ossia quelle tavolozze in cui i colori si accordano come per magia ad un'immagine.

I love colours and palettes , aka those collages were colours and images blend as if by magic.

The picture which most struck me is this one ..... you'll understand why Littl India cut a breach in my heart.

§ Ok, ci siamo davvero, sto seriamente progettando la Casa ed ho iniziato dalla cucina.

Nella mia vita vera la cucina è 7.20 mq. Un buco !

Per questo ho voluto che la cucina in miniatura fosse ENORME , avesse tanti contenitori ed un'isola centrale. Insomma tutto quello che non avrò mai in scala 1:1.

In my real life the kitchen is 7.20 squaremetres. A rabbit hole !

That's why I wanted a HUGE mini kitchen with lots of cabinets and a central island. In short all the things which I'll never have in 1:1 scale.

§ Avrà le pareti azzurre ma la nicchia sarà rivestita con piastrelle bianche rettangolari sullo stile della metropolitana di Londra.

Il pavimento sarà bianco, azzurro e nero in stile Art Decò tipico delle case Genovesi ad inizio 1900.

I piani di lavoro saranno nero ardesia.

Ho finito di disegnare i progetti della casa in scala 1:1.

Può essere inutile ma in realtà mi dà la possibilità di giocare con i mobili e di valutare le reali dimensioni delle stanze.

I finished to draw the house plans in 1:1 scale.
It might be useless but actually it gives me the chance of playing with pieces of furniture and evaluate the real dimensions of rooms.

§ Questa è la pianta del quarto piano con le tre camere da letto ed i due bagni. La superficie totale sarà di 90x50 cm e l'altezza sarà 115 cm.

§ This is the fourth floor plan with the three bedrooms and two bathrooms. The total surface will be of 90x50 cms and the height will be 115 cms.

§ Non sarà una casa enorme ma nella mia vera casa ...... tremo già al pensiero di darle una collocazione.

§ It wont be a huge house but in my real one .... my wrists already shake at the thought of finding a place for it.

Premesso che la borsa rossa che vedete è la mia super amatissima Furla modello "Cappuccetto Rosso va dalla Nonna" e che ha già la bella età di 4 anni ( portati splendidamente vorrei aggiungere ).

Premesso che delle firme non mi interessa niente.

Premesso tutto questo quando , lunedì scorso, sono passata in un negozio di perline non ho potuto fare a meno di comprare 6 borse diverse.

Tutorial veloce veloce per un cesto per neonati.
Quick tut for a children basket.

Per prima cosa procuratevi del canovaccio ed una scatola di fazolletti umidificati.
First get some canvas and a box of wipes.

Poi fate una soluzione molto carica di acqua e vinavil ed immergetevi un pezzo di canovaccio sufficiente a rivestire il fondo della scatola.

Make a thick solution of water and white glue and soak a piece of canvas wide enough to cover the bottom of the box.

Lasciatelo asciugare completamente.

Let it dry completely.

Una volta asciutti avrete due gusci.

Once dried you'll have two shells.

Ritagliate e rifinite i bordi.

Cut and shape the borders.

Ora preparate il materiale per il materasso e le lenzuola.

Now prepare the material for the matress and the linens.

Tagliate la stoffa in forma per ricoprire la cesta dal'interno.

Cut the fabric accordingly to the shape of the inside of the basket.

Otterrete una scatola di stoffa.

You'll have a box of fabric.

Inseritela all'interno del cestino.

Put it inside the little basket.

Cucite un pizzo intorno al bordo fissandolo al canovaccio.

Sew a trim around the border fixing it to the canvas.

Con 6 fili di canovaccio intrecciate una treccia piatta.

Using 6 threads of canvas make a flat braid.

Incollate la treccia al cesto.

Glue the braid to the basket.

Nel frattempo cucite un materassino a misura del fondo.

In the meanwhile prepare a mattress shaped like the bottom of the basket.

Aggiungete le decorazioni che più vi piacciono. Divertitevi :o)

Ricordi - Memories

§ La padrona di casa ha un fratello.

Un fratellino come lei ama dire anche se ormai anche lui è padre di famiglia e li dividono solo poco più di due anni

Il primo ricordo di lui è il ricordo di un'attesa, un'attesa felice ed un tantino ansiosa a casa della nonna.

La bambina continuava a ripetere, correndo su e giù per il corridoio, " Mamma ata ende Ando !"

(traduco: Mamma è andata a prendere Alessandro).

E finalmente Alessandro arrivò a casa dentro una cesta di paglia foderata d'azzurro come un piccolo Mosè che tutti aspettavano.

Per celebrare l'avvenimento ed il prossimo compleanno del "piccolo" di casa ho pensato di riprodurre la famosa cesta. Sarà riposta in soffitta o chissà, in un ripostiglio, ma per ora la Signora la guarda e sorride.

At last Alessandro arrived in a straw basket lined in soft blue like a little Mose whom everybody was waiting for.

To celebrate the occurrence and the next birthday of the house "little one" I thought of reproducing the famous basket. It will be kept in the attic or may be in a cupboard, in the meanwhile the Lady looks at it and smiles.

Sylvia l'ha stampata su carta fotografica poi io ho ritagliato le letterine con un bisturi e le ho incollate.

Here is the SMEG logo. Yesterday Nyork asked how to make the letters.

Sylvia printed it on photografic paper then I cut them with a sharp knife and glued them.

Oggi poi l'ho riempito con quello che avevo in casa; frutta, verdurine, funghi, latte e un dolcino.

Today I filled it with what I had at home; fruit, veggies, mushrooms, milk and a dessert.

E' talmente costoso che non me lo potrò mai permettere, anche perchè in fin dei conti è una planetaria e se ne trovano di altrettanto valide MOLTO più economiche.

Ma non è bellissimo ???

La versione rosa è stata fatta per aiutare L'Associazione per la ricerca sul Cancro al Seno ed è piuttosto difficile da trovare.

Però io ce l'ho in miniatura ((((((^_^)))))))

Questa è la mia idea di frigorifero.

Ahimè un amico che lavora nel settore mi ha confidato in gran segreto che quello vero non funziona granchè bene, ma a noi cosa importa ?

Io so solo che il rosa mi piace e che si accompagna con il mini Kitchenaid già in mio possesso.

Per cui adesso è il turno del pittore di casa, ossia il mio amato bene.

Spero che me lo finisca entro lunedì.

Questi teli così belli e versatili che sono stati per decenni parte integrante del costume delle donne Genovesi e che per la loro ricchezza di decorazioni sono sempre stati usati nell'arredamento di case ricche e povere.

Io non ne sono mai sazia, li vorrei ovunque anche se mi accontento di usarli come copriletto.

These spreads, so beautiful and versatile, have been used for decades as integral part of the costume of Genoan women and for their wealth of decorations have always been used to decorate house both rich and poor.
I have never enough of them, I'd like to have them everywhere but I'm happy to use them as coverlets.

Nuovi utensili per la cucina - New kitchenware

§ A Roma, in Piazza Navona, per tutto il mese di Dicembre e fino all'Epifania si possono trovare i banchetti dei Presepari.
Già l'anno scorso avevo comprato qualcosina ma davvero troppo poco.
Quest'anno sono partita più agguerrita e con le idee più chiare.

§ In Rome, in Piazza Navona, during December til the Epiphany you can find the Nativity set sellers stalls.
Last year I bought something but truly too little.
This year I was more determined and I had a clear mind.

§ Ahimè, non tutto si può usare, molto spesso gli oggetti proposti sono troppo piccoli però questa serie di pentole di vero rame va benissimo per noi.
Ovviamente non sono pezzi di grande qualità , pensate ai rami di Catherine, ma nella loro economicità sta il grande vantaggio.

§ Alas, we cannot use everything, often the proposed objects are too small but this set of real copper pans are perfect for us.
Obviously these are not great quality pieces, think of Catherine's coppers pans, but they have the advantage of being truly cheap.

§ Festa alla Casa Rossa !!!
Si festeggia il compleanno della nipotina del Capitano che ieri ha compiuto 8 anni.
Lo zio ha organizzato uno spettacolo di burattini e per l'occasione è stato rispolverato il teatrino di Matteo.
Quando Matteo era piccino la sua mamma si infilava dentro il teatrino e recitava le sue favole preferite con l'aiuto delle marionette da dito. Si è divertito molto anche se ora fa un po' fatica a ricordarlo.
Comunque ora è tutto pronto, ci sono i dolcetti e lo zucchero filato dono di una Fatina Francese e poi biscotti e patatine.
Ci sono i sedili dell'altezza giusta dei bambini.
Quello centrale è un po' speciale, lo ha ricamato la mamma con una giostra di cavallini di tutti i colori per intonarsi al libro del circo.
Ma ora i grandi se ne devono andare, è l'ora dei piccini ....

They are celebrating the birthday of the Captain's niece who was 8 yesterday.
Her uncle has organized a puppet show and for the occasion Matteo's puppet theatre has been dusted.
When Matteo was young his mum sneaked inside the theatre and played his favourite fairy tales with the help of finger puppets. He used to enjoy it a lot even though now it's difficult for him to remember.
Anyway everything is ready, there are the sweets and the barbapapas gift of a French Fairy and then cookies and chips.
There are seats just at kids height.
The central one is a bit special, Mum has stitched it with a multicoloured horses carousel to match with the circus pop up book.
But it's time for grown ups to leave, it's kids time ....

The wonderful paper of the outer cover has been presented to me by Nikki last year and I only waited a project worth of its beauty .
The inner paper is a bit of the wallpaper which once covered my closet.

Ancora libri .....
Avrò bisogno di centinaia di libri per riempire la mia sala da té e per la libreria della casa.
Oggi i miei occhi collaboravano un pochino di più e, visto il tempo perfido, ne ho fatto un altro po'.
Anche se serviranno solo come tappabuchi ho voluto che ognuno avesse le sue brave paginette e la copertina rigida e foderata.
Lo so, sono pazza ma che volete, io amo i libri.

Il Libro dei Fiori ed il libro di Beatrix Potter invece hanno figure e pagine scritte e saranno in bella vista in casa.
Le immagini del Livres des Fleurs sono di Carol mentre non mi ricordo chi ha fatto quelle di Peter Rabbit, ho tenuto questo file nel pc per circa 1 anno. Forse Caterina ? chi lo sa mi avverta per favore.

Again books .....
I shall need hundreds of them to fill my tea room and the library inside the house.
Today my eyes were a bit more cooperative and, since the weather is foul, I made some more.
Even though they will be used as fillers I made each one of them with its proper pages and a hardback with an inside cover.
I know, I'm nut but you know, I love books.

The Flowers Book and the Beatrix Potter's one have real images and printed pages and they will have pride of place inside the house.
The Livre des Fleurs images are by Carol while I cannot remember who made Peter Rabbit. I kept this file on my pc for nearly 1 year. May be Caterina ? if someone knows please tell me.

Sono andata in negozio solo per mezz'ora per vedere una cliente e poi mi sono fiondata a casa sotto le coperte.

Oiseau de Nim

La scorsa estate Peiwen mi scrisse per avere notizie sulla cucina Italiana e così ci siamo scambiate delle mail.

Qualche giorno fa mi avvertì che mi sarebbe arrivato un pacchetto da parte sua, non pensavo che sarebbe arrivato un pasto completo :o))

Last summer Peiwen wrote to me to have some information on Italian cooking, hence we exchanged a few mails.

Some days ago she warned me that I should have received a parcel, I didn't think I should have got a whole meal :o))

Oven cooked pear and choco shells. There is a belgan firm which produces shells exactly like these.

Signore e Signori,

ho il piacere di ricordarvi che il 12 ed il 13 di Febbraio 2011 ci sarà la 7^ edizione di Miniaturitalia.

Vale la pena fare un viaggetto, prendere un treno ( magari notturno, va bene Caterina?) per ammirare il lavoro di tanti miniaturisti bravissimi.

Andate a curiosare sul sito e non dimenticate di controllare gli workshops; quest'anno sono fantastici.

Le ho fatte stasera con la luce, poca per via delle lampade a risparmio energetico, che c'è a casa mia . Comunque meglio che niente.... spero.

Ieri ho ricevuto il regalo di Eleonora per lo swap di Argante, "Tea Swap".

Ci sono due tovagliette per il tea, una scatola di Price of Wales, una di Earl Grey equosolidale e bustine di Chai speziato che io adoro. E poi biscotti super burrosi che domani verrano divorati a colazione :oP

I've taken them tonight with the dim light, due to the saving energy lamps, which is in my house. Nonetheless it's better than nothing.... hopefully.

Yesterday I received Eleonora's gift for Argante's swap, " Tea Swap".

I received two tea tablemats, one box of Prince of Wales tea, one of Earl Grey and bags of spicy Chai which I adore. More over there are buttery cookies which will be devoured tomorrow at breakfast :oP

Eleonora sta mettendo su casa,la sua prima casa, così le ho mandato una teiera, due scatole di tea che ho comprato in Malesia e una scorta di biscotti.

Essendo una miniaturista le ho mandato anche una mini teiera, due mugs ed un copriteiera.

Nei giorni scorsi ho ricevuto regali meravigliosi per la Casa Rossa da parte di Linda.

Lately I received wonderful gifts for the Casa Rossa from Linda.

La padrona di casa, appassionata di cucito e ricamo, ha ricevuto un oggetto che le sarà sicuramente utile: un uovo di legno, indispensabile per rammendare le calze del Capitano.

Questo è un oggetto splendido di legno di agrifoglio tornito ad Edimburgo da un gentiluomo Inglese ed acquistato a Parigi.

Bel viaggio per un oggetto così piccino...

Insieme un rocchetto di filo rosso che mancava nella scatola da cucito.

The Lady of the house, fond of stitching and sewing, received an object which will be surely useful to her: a egg darner, essential to darn the Captain's socks.

This is a fabulous tool turned out of holly wood in Edinburgh by an English gentleman and bought in Paris.

Long trip for such a tiny piece .....

It came with a spool of red yarn which was missing in the sewing box.

E' un porta burro o formaggio e si abbina perfettamente al vaso ed al portacandela che sono già nella Casa.

This is a wonderful china piece made by Margaret Crosswell.

It is a butter or cheese plate and it matches perfectly with the vase and candleholder which are already in the Casa.

Altri regali sono poi arrivati con la Posta che ultimamente funziona bene ( tocca ferro).

Queste minimeraviglie sono dono di Stephanie, una giovane, assolutamente talentuosa miniaturista che ho conosciuto a Singapore.

Mi ha inviato nastri per cartoleria e non potete immaginare quanto siano perfetti. Ognuno ha un disegno diverso: animaletti, motivi marinari, un paesaggio, un disegno tartan.

Other gifts arrived by Mail which recently is working well ( touch wood).

These miniwonders are a present from Stephanie, a young, absolutely talented miniaturist I met in Singapore.

She sent to me stationery ribbons and you cannot imagine how perfect they are.Each has a different motif: tiny pets, sea motifs, a landscape, a tartan design.

E poi il pezzo forte: i cartoni di latte aromatizzato per i bambini di casa !

Vi ricordate il mezzo litro di latte nel tetrabrick triangolare ? se non siete più giovanissime...come me, ehm ehm... li avete visti sicuramente.

una settimana in ritardo - one week late

Una settimana dopo averlo ricevuto posso mostrare il regalo che Synnove mi ha mandato.

Synnove è stata il mio primo vero contatto nel mondo delle mini "adulte", ossia di qualità, grazie alle bellissime foto che pubblicava sul suo blog e sulla sua rivista.

Aggiungiamo a questo che è una persona adorabile, che ho avuto il piacere di incontrarla di persona per darvi l'idea di quanto speciale sia stato per me ricevere un suo pacchetto.

Sapevo che stava preparando una Rosanna's box e, sapendo quanto sia impegnata nella vita reale, non mi sembrava possibile che riuscisse ad "infilarci" anche un po del suo tempo per me.

Ma ecco che venerdì scorso vedo una scatola sul mio zerbino.

One week later having received it I can show the present that Synnove sent to me.

Synnove has been my first real contact in "grown ups" minis world, I mean quality minis, thanks to the beautiful pictures that she published on her blog and on her mag.

Add to this that she is a lovely woman, that I had the great pleasure of meeting her in real life and you'll understand how special was for me receiving her parcel.

I knew that she was preparing a Rosanna's box and, being aware of how busy she is in real life, I couldn't think that she might squeeze some time for me in her schedule.

But on Friday I saw a box on my doormat.

Tempo di funghi - Mushrooms time

§ La Liguria non è solo terra di mare ma è anche terra di monti.

E' stretta tra gli Appennini e le prime appendici delle Alpi ed un tempo era ricca di foreste.

Si diceva che si potesse percorrerla tutta senza ma scendere dai rami degli alberi . La storia del Barone Rampante è nata nei nostri boschi.

Purtroppo non sono più così lussureggianti, almeno alle spalle di Genova, ma esistono ancora, ricchi di castagni e di faggi.

E soprattutto ricchi di funghi, per chi li sa trovare....

Il nostro Capitano, uomo di mare ma con le radici saldamente piantate nella sua terra, è un appassionato "fungaiolo" e in Autunno parte la mattina alle prime luci dell'alba per strappare al bosco il suo tesoro.

Ed eccoli i porcini, re dei funghi.

Ma attenzione a non raccogliere le amanite, sono bellissime, funghi fatati ma letali !!

§ Liguria is not only a land of sea but also of mountains.

It's serrated between the Appennini and the first mountains of the Alps and long time ago it was rich in forests.

It was said that you might run through it without getting down the tree branches. The novel of the Barone Rampante was born here.

Alas the woods aren't so luxuriant any more, at least at the back of Genoa, but they are still there rich in chestnuts and beech trees.

And most important of all rich in mushrooms for those who know where to find them.....

Our Captain, sea man but whose feet are deeply rooted in his homeland soil, is an appassionate mushrooms hunter and in Autumn he leaves home at first dawn lights to rob the woods of their treasures.

And here they are, porcini, kings among mushrooms.

But pay attention, do not pick up the amanitas, they are beautiful, fairy mushrooms but lethal !!

Immaginate un cielo grigio, gonfio di pioggia.

Immaginate zaffate di vento umido e caldo provenienti dal mare.

Immaginate scrosci improvvisi e violenti di pioggia.

Questa era Genova oggi.

Ma nella cassetta della posta è arrivato un timido raggio di sole, un soffio di profumo di terra e di frutti, una Fatina birichina.

Qualche giorno fa sul blog di Stephanie ho letto un post e ho conosciuto il lavoro di Frances Melhop, una fotografa Neo Zelandese.

Mi sono innamorata di Thumbelina = Pollicina che gioca all'altalena sul ribes e poi, stanca dei giochi, si riposa in un guscio di noce.

Queste deliziose immagini arricchiranno la Casa Rossa.

Frances sa che saranno esposte in una casa di bambole e nel biglietto allegato alle foto mi ha scritto: "... sono pazza per le case di bambole..." e questo mi rende doppiamente felice.

Imagine a grey sky, swollen with rain.

Imagine blows of moist, warm wind coming from the sea.

Imagine sudden and violent showers.

This was Genoa today.

But in the mail box arrived a shy sun ray, a whiff of scent of hearth and fruits, a cheeky Fairy.

Some day ago I read a post on Stephanie's blog and I met Frances Melhop's, a New Zealander photographer, works.

I fall in love with Thumbelina swinging on a redcurrant branch and then, tired of her games, resting in a shellnut.

These delightful images will have pride of place in the Casa Rossa.

Frances knows that they will go in a dolls house and in the card joined to the pics she wrote:

"...I am obsessed with dolls houses...." and this makes me double happy.

Un lupo di mare - A sea wolf

§ Il proprietario della Casa Rossa è un lupo di mare.

E' nato e cresciuto a Genova ma ha navigato per il mondo. E' ancora giovane, infatti ha un figlio adolescente ed una figlia ancora bambina.

Per questo motivo, per poter stare vicino a suoi bambini, ha deciso di passare più tempo a casa e di viaggiare un po' meno.

Ma ha sempre pronto tutto il necessario per poter partire all'istante.

§ The owner of the Casa Rossa is a sea wolf.

He has been born and brought up in Genoa but he has sailed all around the world. He is still a young man, actually he has a teenaged son and a little daughter.

For this reason, to have more time to spend with his children, he made up his mind to stay more time at home and travell less.

But he always has all the necessary ready to leave in a minute.

§ Per prima cosa la borsa a tracolla dove tenere i vestiti di ricambio.

Devono starci anche gli stivali ed il cappello per la pioggia nonchè le scarpe di cuoio per le belle giornate.

§ First thing the shoulder bag in which he must keep the change clothes.

It also has to contain the rain boots and hat and the leather shoes for sunny days.

§ Ma come ho detto il Capitano ama trascorrere tempo nella sua casa e si diletta di buone letture e si diverte ad insegnare i nodi marinari ai suoi bambini

§ E così Kristel mi ha donato queste bellissime gru, sono quattro piccolissime ed una un po' più grandina che è volata fuori dalla foto...

Le gru hanno un valore speciale; si dice che chi piegherà 1000 gru avrà esaudito un desiderio.

Da ragazzina lessi un libro basato sulla vera storia di una bambina superstite di Hiroshima.

Cominciò a piegare le sue gru sul letto d'ospedale ma purtroppo non riuscì a finirle....

Mi commuove sempre pensare ai bambini malati, alle loro sofferenze e a come, molto spesso, si comportino molto più coraggiosamente degli adulti che li circondano.

Va bè, questo non c'entra, è una divagazione.

Comunque io volevo fare qualcosa con queste piccole meraviglie.

The cranes have a special meaning; it's said that if someone will fold 1000 cranes he/she will have one wish made true.

When I was pre teen I read a book on the true story of a little survivor of Hiroshima.

She started folding her cranes on her hospital bed but, als, she did not managed to finsh them....

I'm always moved when I think of sick children, of their sufferings and how, most often, they endure them much more bravely than the grown ups around them.

Well, this was out of theme, doesn't count.

Anyway I wanted to do something with these little wonders.

§ Vi ricordate che Sans aveva fatto dei mobiles? ho preso spunto dal suo lavoro e ne ho costruito uno anch'io per la nursery.

Le gru porteranno sogni d'oro alla bimba fortunata che vivrà nella Casa Rossa .

§ Questo sarà un mini post che ricalca quello sul'altro blog.

La Casa Rossa sarà di proprietà di un marinaio, magari un capitano, e nell'ingresso ci sarà appeso il suo cappotto.

Questa meravigliosa miniatura è il frutto di uno swap tra me e Lisette e non so davvero da dove partire per descriverlo.

Basti sapere che è davvero fatto come quelli veri...solo più bello !

§ Ieri ho ricevuto un regalo.

Un regalo importante da una persona cara, la mia Nonna.

Mi ha donato un pezzetto della sua storia e di quella di sua suocera, la mia bisnonna a cui apparteneva questo ritratto.

Mi ha donato un sogno di bambina perchè quando lo

ammiravo incantata sognavo che fosse appartenuto ad una principessa e mai più pensavo di poterlo tenere in mano.

Mi sono commossa ieri aprendo il sacchetto in cui era contenuto e ancora una volta mi sono chiesta: " Ma tu,chi sei?"

Strano vero che due amiche abbiano ricevuto un ritratto lo stesso giorno..... mi sembra una magia.

An important gift from a dear person, my Granny.

She presented me with a bit of her history and her mother in law's too, my Greatgrandmother to whom this portrait belonged..

She presented me with a child dream because, when I admired it, charmed by its grace, I dreamt it belonged to a princess and I should have never thought of holding it in my hands.

I was touched yesterday opening the little bag which beheld it and once more I asked myself : " Who are you ?".

§ Cari amici, ho bisogno di un aiutino.

Questo quadro è appeso ad un muro della nostra sala da pranzo/soggiorno/televisione/miniature e chi più ne ha più ne metta.

Eh, sì, abitiamo in un piccolo appartamento e lo spazio è quello che è...

Ma, a parte questo, vorrei che mi consigliaste come fare a stampare un soggetto su un foglio di acetato trasparente come quelli da stencil.

Il quadro originale è dipinto su una lastra di plexiglass ed è appeso distanziato dal muro per creare l'effetto delle ombre.

Vorrei tanto riprodurlo in miniatura; chi mi può aiutare ?

§ Dear friends, I need a little help.

This painting is hanged on a wall in our dining/sitting/living/television/miniatures room.

Oh, yes, we live in a small flat and space is what it is ....

But, a part from that, I'd like your suggestions on how to print a subject on a clear plastic sheet like those used for stencilling.

The original is painted on a plexiglass pane and it is hanged at a certain distance from the wall to create shadows.

I'd like so much to have it in mini; might anybody help me ?

§ Sto un po' meglio e così mi sono divertita a fare qualcosa che troverà posto nella sala da pranzo della Casa Rossa.

Io adoro i quadri e mi piacciono GRANDI ! possibilmente un tantino esagerati.

Così ho copiato il quadro, vero, di un amico che dipinge con una tecnica incredibile e mi sono regalata la sua Melagrana.

§ I feel a bit better thus I had fun doing something which will have pride of place in the dining room of the Casa Rossa.

I love paintings and I like them BIG ! possibly a little exagerated.

Hence I copied the, real scale, painting of a friend who has an incredible tecnique and I presented myself with his Pomegranate.

§ Qualche tempo fa ho contattato Josje per sapere se poteva fornirmi un kit delle sue bellissime seggioline in stile Luigi XVI.

Ero un po' intimidita perchè il lavoro di Josje è assolutamente perfetto e avevo

paura di disturbare.

Invece Josje mi rispose che mandarmi un kit era un po' problematico e che sarebbe stato più semplice mandarmi .... la seggiolina !

Potete immaginare come mi sono sentita... felice è dire poco.

Così ci siamo accordate per uno swap e mercoledì pomeriggio mi sono seduta e mi sono goduta questa piccola, grande opera d'arte.

§ Some time ago I wrote to Josje to know if she could send me a kit of one of her beautiful chairs Louis XVI style.

I was a bit shy because Josje's work is absolutely outstanding and

I was afraid to bother her.

I stead Josje answered me that sending a kit could have troublesome and that it coul have been much easier sending me .... the little chair !

You can imagine how I felt.... happy to say the least.

We agreed on a swap and on Wednesday afternoon I sat down and enjoied this small, great piece of artistry.

Questo dimostra un'attenzione alla persona e una delicatezza sorprendenti.

Josje ha scorso i miei blog, ha scelto i colori che più ricorrono nei miei lavori e ha pensato a dare una forma al mio sogno.

Non potrò mai ringraziarla abbastanza.

A part from the beauty of the painting, the perfection of the frame and the choice of colours the choice of the subject left me breathless.

This shows an umbelievable attention to the person and a incredible thoughtfullness.

Aspettate che chiedo a Matteo.

Ho scannerizzato le copertine, le inserite in un documento Word che mi permette di ridurle alle dimensioni volute cliccando due volte sull'immagine .

Il programma che uso io è Open Office 3.1. Una volta salvate le h

o stampate su carta fotografica, le ho fissate con la lacca per capelli, l'unica cosa che avevo in casa, e poi le ho ritagliate con una lama affilata.

Dentro ho messo fogli di carta ritagliati a misura; alcuni sono apribili, quelli più piccoli sono incollati .

Facile come bere un bicchiere d'acqua....dopo che qualcuno te lo spiega.

Wait that I ask Matteo.

I scanned the covers, i put them in a Word document which allows me to shrink at the requested dimensions simply clicking twice on the imagine.

The program I use is Open Office 3.1. Once you have save the imagines I printed them on photo paper and I fixed them with hairspray, only thing I had handy, and then I cut them with a sharp blade.

Inside I put paper sheets cut to measure; some have loose pages, the smaller ones are glued.

Easy peasy....once someone explains it to you.

Tanta fatica da parte di Sabiha che ha fatto questa scaletta due volte prima che mi arrivasse.

La colpa non era sua ma delle Poste..... grrr

Comunque ora è qui, pronta per essere collocata nella dispensa.

Io sono bassina ( è un eufemismo, sembro la nanetta di Biancaneve) e uso sempre una scaletta in casa mia per arrivare ai pensili e alle mensole alte perciò non poteva mancare al mio alter ego in miniatura.

§ Nel mio ultimo post ho chiesto se qualcuno di voi poteva darmi notizie sulle rose della foto.

Non contenta ho scritto a uno dei più importanti produttori di rose d'Italia, il vivaio Barni di Pistoia e oggi è arrivata la risposta.

La "mia" rosa è coltivata solo in serra come fiore da recidere, non è disponibile per la coltivazione in piena terra e la sua parente più prossima è la Francese Pierre de Ronsard.

Difficilmente potrò mai averne un ramo ma in compenso le ho dato un nome.

§ In my last post I asked if some of you would know the roses in the pic.

Not happy with it I wrote to one of the biggest Italian producers, Barni of Pistoia, and today I received the answer.

"My" rose is only grown in hothouses as a cut flower and it cannot be grown in open land. Its nearest relative is the French Pierre de Ronsard.

Hardly I could have one branch of it but at least I have given it a name.

Queste sono le scale da ci ho preso spunto per la nascente Casa Rossa.

La differenza sostanziale sarà nel materiale. A Genova le vecchie case hanno i gradini di ardesia e così saranno.

Devo decidere se farle di vera ardesia o di legno dipinto, molto più leggero.

Il cuore mi dice ARDESIA !

§ Dreaming is cheap, then dream grand.

These are the stairs from which I took the idea for the going to be Casa Rossa.

The main difference will be in material. Old houses in Genoa have black slate stairs and so it will be.

I have to decide whether doing them in the real thing or in painted wood, much lighter.

Il prossimo progetto sarà la bergère per lo studio.

Ho trovato questo meraviglioso schema sul libro di Annelle Ferguson e intendo riprodurlo.

Molto probabilmente userò colori più chiari e luminosi ma voglio assolutamente questo paesaggio sul retro e i garofani sull' imbottitura. Oltretutto la Liguria è famosa per le sue coltivazioni di garofani.

Una gentilissima signora mi fornirà la struttura e non potrò mai ringraziarla a sufficienza.

Non vedo l'ora di cominciare.

The next project will the the bergère for the study room.

I have found this marvellous pattern on Annele Ferguson's book and I intend to reproduce it.

Most probably I shall use lighter and brighter colours but I absolutely want the landscape on the back and the carnations on the padding. More over Liguria is famous for its carnations plantations.

A very kind Lady will make the structure for me and I shall never be able to thank her enough.

I really look forward starting it.

§ Quando ero giovane, più giovane dovrei dire, avevo un sogno nel cassetto.
Volevo aprire una libreria con annessa sala da te. Sapevo perfettamente come l'avrei arredata, il luogo dove volevo che fosse e avevo anche già deciso il menù.
Quando parlavo del mio progetto mi guardavano tutti come se fossi pazza: " A Genova una cosa del genere?! Andresti in fallimento dopo 6 mesi !!"
Bell'incoraggiamento !!
In realtà, mancando i fondi e avendo orientato la mia vita a tutt'altro, il mio sogno è rimasto lì dove era nato, nella mia testa.
Diciamo che sono passati 20 anni da allora, nel frattempo sono nate librerie di viaggi con bar annesso, fioristi con ristorante all'interno e chi più ne ha più ne metta.
Sono stata un'antesignana e non me ne rendevo conto.
L'anno scorso poi ho avuto uno shock: a Loumarin, piccolo, meraviglioso paese del Luberon, l'ho vista!
La mia creatura virtuale fatta carne ed ossa... forse meglio dire porte e mattoni.
Vi presento Le Thé dans l'Encrier, ossia Il tè nel Calamaio , che nei miei progetti troverà luogo al piano terra della Casa Rossa.

§ When I was young, I should say younger,I had a dream in a drawer.
I wanted to open a bookshop joined to a tearoom. I perfectly knew how I'd have furnished it, I knew the location and I had even made up the menu.
When I talked about my project everyone stared at me as if I were nut: " In Genoa a place like that ?! You'd be bankrupt in 6 months time!".
Nice encouragement, isn't it ?
In reality, lacking the funds and being my life totally differently oriented, my dream remained where it was born, into my head.
Let's say that 20 years have gone by, in the meanwhile there has been a flourishing of travel bookshops + bars, florists with annexed restaurant and the more you can imagine the more you can add.
I have been a forerunner and I did not know.
And last year I got a shock: in Loumarin, small, lovely village in Luberon, I saw it !
My virtual creature made flesh and bones... better say doors and bricks.
Let me introduce you to "Le Thé dans l'Encrier" aka " The Tea in the Inkpot", which in my projects will take place at the ground floor of the casa Rossa.

§ Sans l'ha fatta bella, mi ha passato questo "premio" che consiste in raccontare 10 cose di noi stessi che voi non sapete e poi passarlo ad altro 4 malcapitati.
Nessuno si è tirato indietro perciò pare che ora tocchi a me.
Allora......

1- Non so ballare, non saprei farlo neppure se ne andasse della mia vita. Ho la grazia di un manico di scopa ed è tutto detto.

2- Non ho mai fumato niente di qualunque genere e tipo in tutta la mia vita e non penso che mai lo farò.

3- Cantavo in un coro sinfonico da ragazza, ora le mie corde vocali hanno qualche problema ma cantare mi piace sempre. Con gran dispiacere della mia famiglia.

4- Non reggo l'alcool, basta poco per ubriacarmi ma adoro il gin e la vodka.

5- Da qui la mia prima sbornia, a 16 anni, in Spagna, di sangria. Con i miei genitori !!!!

6- Mi sono sposata a 24 anni e ho divorziato a 31. La migliore decisione della mia vita.

7- Ho conosciuto Walter sul lavoro.

8- Ero una lettrice accanita prima di avere un blog, ora ho un po' ridotto il ritmo ;o)

9- A 18 anni ho lavorato per qualche mese in un Mac Donald's a Londra. Forse l'esperienza più formativa della mia vita.

10- Avrei voluto 3 figli ma Matteo è rimasto figlio unico. Allora vizio i figli degli altri.

§ Sans has done it, she passed this "award" to me and it means that I have to tell you 10 things of mine which you do not know. And then pass it over to 4 other unlucky people.
Since nobody has ever tried to bring it along now it's my turn.
Well.....

1- I cannot dance, I could not do it even for my life sake. I am as graceful as a broom stick and that's all about it.

2- I have never smoked anything in my life and I suspect that I shall never do.

3- I used to sing in a simphonic choir when I was a girl. Now my vocal cords are troublesome but I still love singing. Much to my family dismay.

4- I cannot stand alcool, I need very little to get drunk but I do love gin and vodka.

5- Hence I got sloshed first time at 16, in Spain, cause of sangria. With my parents !!!!

6- I got married at 24 and divorced at 31. Best decision ever.

7- I met Walter at work.

8- I was a hungry reader before I had a blog, now I have slowed down ;o)

9- At the age of 18 I worked for some months in a Mac Donald in London. One of the most formative experiences in my life.

10- Iwished to have 3 children but alas Matteo is a only child. This is why a spoil friends' kids.

I have been challenged 3 times.
This time from Sandra of Tales from a doll maker.

Li ho ordinati apposta per la cucina della Casa Rossa, non ci sono i mobili e neanche la stanza ma i piatti sì ;o))

I ordered them on Casa Rossa purpose, I do not have the furniture and not even the actual room but I've got the dishes ;o))
§ I piatti sono stati decorati secondo le mie richieste: io adoro l'azzurro nelle case e negli accessori.
§ The dishes have been custom made on my request: I just love light blue in houses and accessories.
§ Questa è una nuova linea di Elisabetta decorata in stile Tedesco. A Settembre arriveranno anche le tazze e i piattini. non vedo l'ora.
§ This is a new decor by Elibetta in German style. In September I'll received also the mugs and dishes. I cannot wait.
§ Le mie preferite, le pentole di terracotta. Sono IDENTICHE a quelle che uso tutti i giorni.
§ These are my best loved, the hearthware pots. They are IDENTICAL to the ones I use everyday.

§ Io amo i libri, amo i loro colori, il loro odore e il loro aspetto.

Questa sarebbe la mia stanza preferita in una casa vera e sarà realizzata in qualche misura nella Casa Rossa.

Per ora ho solo la poltrona, che mi è arrivata solo da pochi giorni, il cuscino che ho ricamato l'anno scorso e il tappeto che ho trovato in Tunisia.

Primi timidi accenni nella realtà ma tanti sogni nella testa.

§ I love books, their colours, their smell and their look.

This would be my best loved room in a real house and I shall somehow do it in the Casa Rossa.

Up to now I only have the bergere, the pillow which I stitched last year and he carpet which I bought in Tunisia.

First shy hints in reality but so many dreams in my head.

§ The pillow says: "When you lend a book it gets so much offended that it never comes back".

Adesso vi darò la spiegazione del motivo per cui ho scelto questo particolare sfondo.

Infatti è molto più colorato del mio blog abituale ma per tutto c'è un motivo.

Today I'll explain you why I choose this particular background.

Actually it is much more coloured than my usual one but there is a reason for everything.

Il disegno ricorda moltissimo i Mezzeri Genovesi, quei grandi tessuti stampati che ancora oggi si trovano in tutte le case genovesi doc.

Il decoro e la lavorazione derivano dall'India, arrivarono a Genova nel tardo 1600 dove spopolarono tra i ricchi e i nobili. A causa della loro popolarità cominciarono ad essere prodotti in loco e a diffondersi tra il popolo.

Il disegno più diffuso ed amato era l'Albero della Vita.

The pattern recalls very much the Mezzeri Genovesi, those large printed cotton fabrics that you can find in all true Genoese houses.

The decor and printing method come from India ( Sans, prick your ears!), they arrived in the late 1600 in Genoa where they become the rage among nobles and wealthy people. Their popularity was so high that they begun to be produced in the city and they spread among the people.

The most used and best loved pattern was the Tree of Life.
I decori comprendevano scimmie e minareti e dall' inizio del 1800 si diffuse la mania delle rose.

The patterns were comprehensive of monkeys and minarets and from the beginning of 1800 the rose mania took place.

Mezzero viene dall'Arabo e significa Coprire, infatti i mezzeri venivano usati per molti scopi: i più grandi, i mezzeri veri e propri, 270 x 270 cm, venivano usati per l'arredamento.

I pezzotti, 180 x 270 cm, venivano usati come grandi scialli dalle donne del popolo o come tendaggi.

I mandilli, altra parola Araba che significa fazzoletto ( stesso significato in dialetto Genovese) erano più piccoli e si usavano come foulards d'estate.

Mezzero comes from Arabic and it means to Cover, in fact the mezzeri were used for multiple purposes: the widest ones, mezzeri properly said, 270 x 270 cm, were used for home decoration.

The pezzotti, 180 x 270 cm, were used as big shawls by peseant women or as curtains.

The mandilli, another Arab word which means hankerchief ( same meaning in Genoese dialect) were smaller an they were used as foulards in summer.
Ancora oggi sono molto amati, nella prima foto potete vedere un mezzero usato come tendaggio in una casa del Centro Storico. Io stessa ne ho uno che uso come copriletto d'estate. Naturalmente l'Albero della Vita, nei toni del blu.

Tutto ciò per dirvi che nella mia Casa Rossa ci sarà sicuramente posto per uno di loro.

They are stil much loved, in the first pic you can see a mezzero hanged as a curtain in a house in the Historic Centre. I myself use one of them as a bed cover in summer. The Tree of Life of course, in blue hues.

All this nonsense to tell you that in my Casa Rossa there will surely be place for one of them.

Ho già scritto un post sulla Casa Rossa, ossia sul desiderio di costruire una casa tutta mia, dalle fondamenta al tetto, ma seguendo il filo della miglior qualità possibile. Ossia vorrei riuscire ad avere solo , nelle mie possibilità, il meglio disponibile per costruirla, arredarla e decorarla.

Questo significa anche alzare molto i miei standard e imparare a lavorare con maggior attenzione ai dettagli e soprattutto con maggior pazienza. Molto spesso infatti la fretta di vedere il risultato finito ha pregiudicato la qualità del lavoro.

Ho deciso di prendermi tutto il tempo che sarà necessario e di usare questo nuovo blog come blocco per gli appunti; quando avrò qualche novità sarà inserita in queste pagine virtuali e voi potrete seguire i lavori in corso.

I have already written a post on the Red House, that is of the wish of building a house from scratch by myself but following the path of the best available quality. That is that I'd like to have only the best, according to my possibilities, to build, decorate and furnish it.

This means that I have to lift up my standards and learn to work paying much more attenton to details and more patiently. Most often my hurry of seeing the results has been of predjudice fr th quality of results.

I made up my mind to take all the time I need and to use this new blog as a note pad; any time I'll have some news I shall put it in these virtual pages and you'll be able to follow the work in progress.
